Srimad Bhagavatam – Day 3

Sat-karma sūcakō nūnaṃ jnana-yajnaḥ smrto budhaih
Srimad-bhāgavatālāpah sa tu gitaḥ śukādibhih

Amongst all the Yajnas, Jnana-yagna is the most supreme. This Jnana-yajna called singing Srimad Bhāgavatam has been performed by Maharishi Śuka and other eminent sages. You propagate this Bhāgawatam in this world.

Praḷayaṃ hi gamiśyanti Srimad-bhāgavatā-dhvanēh
Kali-dośa ime sarve simha-sabdād vrka iva

Just as the wolf runs in fear on hearing a lion’s roar, all the difficulties and sorrows of Kali Yuga will be destroyed if the devotee sings this Bhāgawatam”.

Idaṃ bhāgavataṃ nāma purāṇaṃ braḥma-sammitaṃ
Bhakti -jnāna virāgāṇāṃ sthāpanāya prakāsitaṃ

This sacred Maha-purāna called Bhāgawatam is equivalent of the Vedas. In order to establish devotion (bhakti), supreme knowledge (jnana) and dispassion (vairagya) in this world, this has been lit/ illumined by the Supreme Lord himself.

from Srimad Bhagavatam – Day 3(Translations of Pujya Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji’s daily explanation of Srimad Bhagavatam on ETV from December 2015 onwards are compiled by Parimala Eshwarla)

  1. The third point is very crucial and the fundamental aspect of Vyasa’s expositions. The very story of the birth of Bhagavatam by the nudge of Narada unto Vyasa has the key point of it being the Essence and a grand key to the wisdom as given by ancient seers!
